US payroll tax estimator
Estimate one employee's Social Security, Medicare, and employer FUTA taxes for a single pay period.
Assumes ordinary taxable employee wages, not contractor or exempt pay. The current wage amount is assumed taxable for all three taxes. Federal, state, and local income-tax withholding, state unemployment, deductions, and benefits are excluded. This is not a take-home-pay calculator.
2026 rates, assumptions & sources
Social Security: 6.2% each for employee and employer, on wages up to $184,500 annually. Medicare: 1.45% each, with no wage cap. Employer withholding of Additional Medicare: 0.9% on wages above $200,000 from that employer, with no employer match. FUTA: 6.0% on the first $7,000 annually before eligible credits.
Additional Medicare shown here is employer withholding, not the employee's final tax liability, which depends on filing status and other income. Values are rounded to cents per tax line. Confirm taxability and withholding in your payroll system before processing.
